Yup, Ys Book 1 & 2 has its own anime. It was officially released in North America, too! Although the DVD was released in '04, the anime was not; it's old. It's what you would expect a late 80's/early 90's anime to look like. The anime itself is nothing extraordinary; it's your average fantasy anime. I would recommend the Ys anime only to devote anime fans or those who are a big fan of the classic Ys games. The storyline follows the game very closely. And what's cool about the story is that it's tied together throughout the entire 11 episodes of the anime. The soundtrack consists of remakes from the game's soundtrack. The bonus material of each DVD contains a gallery of pretty anime art. The North American release of the Ys anime was weird. First they released 3 separate DVDs (shown to the right) in 2003. Then in 2004 they released Ys Legacy. Ys Legacy is a bundle containing all the episodes and bonus material of the previously released DVDs. So this is an important distinction to remember when purchasing this anime! So have I peaked your interest? Are you interested in watching the Ys anime right now? You can! I have it featured in my anime streaming site, the Anime Video Archive. Here's a larger button for the skim-readers... |
