Ramblings: Falcom realized that people enjoyed Ys Book 1 & 2's battle system much more than the 2D system they added to Ys 3, so in Ys 4 they went back to their roots. You'll notice many similarities in the style and such. And that's all I can say about it for the moment, I've only played the first 5 minutes of the game. For the most part, it's definitely beautiful and traditional of the genre. Ah, if you're a knowledgeable classic gamer, you might be asking yourself now
"Hey wait a second, those screen shots below are in English. How can this be? Ys 4 was never officially released in the US! At least I think it never was..." - you are correct, Ys 4 is a Japan-only game. However in 2003, "Nightwolve" and his team fully translated the game to English. Then in 2012 they fully dubbed the Japanese voices to English! This was a critical update because quite a chunk of the game is made up of voice dialogue. Note that the Ys IV zip in the Downloads section here is fully patched with the English text & English dialogue.
