EarthBound Collection is a fan-made ROM hacking project consisting of two releases:
Rather than modernizing the games, the team's goal was to create an experience that feels like an official Nintendo release from an alternate timeline—one where EarthBound became a massive success and received a deluxe re-release featuring both games in a single package, complete with a strategy guide.
Development has spanned nearly two decades. The project began as an early remake by Clyde “Tomato” Mandelin in 2007, continued through an ambitious but ultimately lost iteration by H.S. between 2010 and 2020, and was revived in 2021 by Gabbi and members of the PK Hack community, rebuilding the project from scratch while preserving the vision established over the years.
The remake uses the original Sandhop English translation as its foundation, with numerous grammar, spelling, and clarity improvements inspired by Tomato's translation work on Mother 1+2.
