Site Updates

I typed up a detailed tutorial on how to watch and download anime for free. I did this to try to make things easier for everyone, now that I'm pushing Internet Archive and Nyaa as the best options to download the anime featured on this site.

I captured Bluray quality screenshots from Record of the Lodoss War and Ninja Scroll. Additionally, I re-captured the Chrono Trigger shots and Final Fantasy 7 Last Order shots with the newer, better quality videos.

I completed reworking The Anime Video Archive into Anime Classics! I thought that name would be most appropriate, now that the site no longer has videos. In place of the videos, I offer direct links to stream the anime on Internet Archive or download the anime from Nyaa. That's actually better than me hosting the anime. I often had to compress videos for my site, especially if they were Blu-ray rips. If you download all of my covered anime from Nyaa, you're ensuring you get the absolute best quality videos.

Without the videos, I don't have to worry about DMCA takedown notices anymore (nervous laugh). So, as a bonus for Anime Classics, I was able to put back up all the anime I took down due to takedown notices. That anime includes:

More work still needs to be done. As an anime reviews site, the current 'video site' layout needs to go. This site needs to change to more effectively establish it for anime reviews.

I have terrible news. I took down all of the videos. I'll explain why. The story begins in the early 2000s. The Internet boomed with wild success. In this time of plenty, web hosts commonly offered the perk of 'unlimited' web space (my web host included). In 2012, I took advantage of this perk to open The Anime Video Archive (this website). However, the pandemic happened, and now inflation is severely impacting the world. People have lost their jobs. Prices are going up for everything. This has impacted web hosts as well. More and more web hosts are rolling back on perks and taking away the 'unlimited space' perk. My web host recently did away with it. I cannot afford the new, high costs to keep the anime videos up. I was forced to purge all of this site's videos. For nearly 11 years, this site provided streaming of anime classics with no ads and no hassle. But, I don't want to close the site and throw everything away. There are still hundreds of screenshots. Lots of pages feature soundtrack downloads, too. I want to rebrand the site into a general anime reviews site.

The following site updates are kept for archival purposes. But please note, this site is no longer an anime streaming site. Disregard all the talk of new anime added for streaming.

Ending the year with lots of updates! I added a new gory horror movie, Demon Hunter! Ninja Gaiden and Fire Emblem have both been updated to beautiful DVD quality (previously, they were poor quality VHS transfers). Also for Fire Emblem, I added the full soundtrack for download and art scans. Project A-Ko 2 was updated to Bluray quality (just like Project A-Ko 1).

Jan 12, 2022

Beginning the new year with a new movie! I've added the site's second live action movie: the horror flick, Sweet Home. This is the famous movie that inspired the Resident Evil game series released by Capcom! I also added the Bluray quality version of Project A-ko (both dubbed and subtitled versions).

Ending the new year with a new movie! I've added the intense sci-fi drama, A Wind Named Amnesia.

Jun 16, 2021

I finally got around to updating the site's Super Trailer a.k.a. Demo Video. This trailer is a super cut showing 6 seconds from every anime featured on this site. It's been a while so there were 11 anime I had to add to the video.

May 25, 2021

Added the Panzer Dragoon OVA (based on the popular Saturn game!) and the hilarious fantasy adventure series, Explorers! I accomplished something awesome with the Panzer Dragoon OVA. The Japanese video files were far better quality than the English dubbed video files. I managed to overlay the English dubbing on the Japanese video file. So this website is the only place you'll find a good quality English dubbed video!

Lots of video quality improvements!
• The Chrono Trigger OVA was recently updated with a DVD quality version, which this site now has. This is a big deal! For all of these years, only the poor quality VHS transfer was available.
• Added a Blu-ray quality version of Slayers Perfect: The Motion Picture (subtitled version only).
• Added a slightly better quality version of Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals. Best of all, the subtitles are now normal text. The previous subtitles were a fancy brush stroke font that wasn't easy to read.
• The subtitled episodes for Golden Boy had an issue where words were oddly appearing inside black boxes. This is now fixed! The new font is also nicer-looking and easier to read.

Added the awesome Greek Mythology-inspired mid 80s classic, Arion!

Sep 24, 2019

Updated Final Fantasy VII: Last Order with a nice Blu-ray quality version. Everyone is circulating this HD video with out of sync subtitles. But not me! I corrected the subtitle timing myself :)

Apr 22, 2019

I've upgraded the quality of the following anime from DVD quality to Blu-ray quality: Demon City Shinjuku, Wicked City, Robot Carnival, and Neo Tokyo. Also, I found better quality versions for Twilight of the Dark Master and Fire Emblem OVA (subtitled versions only).

Oct 1, 2018

Here's the 2018 update! I've added 2 award-winning anime classics: Robot Carnival and Neo Tokyo. Additionally, I've added the site's first Japanese live action movie: Parasite Eve. It's based on the novel by the same title, which Parasite Eve on the PlayStation 1 is based on.

Aug 6, 2017

Here's the 2017 update! I've added 5 awesome anime movie classics: Slayers: The Motion Picture, Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland, Time Stranger, The Dagger of Kamui, and Dragon Slayer.

Dec 17, 2016

No new anime, but I wanted to point out that Chrome recently added the ability to cast web videos to your TV! So if you own a Chromecast you can now easily enjoy all the anime in this site on your TV. This new feature is supported by Android devices, Windows, and OSX. Chrome also added the ability to download videos, but that doesn't matter here because I've always provided the download links to the videos in this site.

MASSIVE ANIME UPDATE! I've been working on this update for a long time. I've added 8 movies: EYES of Mars, Legend of Lemnear, Midnight Eye Gokuu 1 & 2, They Were Eleven, Twilight of the Dark Master, and Windaria. I've added 7 series: Bastard, Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals, Golden Boy, Kishin Corps, Legend of Crystania: The Chaos Ring, Night Warriors, and Ninja Resurrection.

Other updates include new categories to Categories. And a snazzy 'mega trailer' with short clips from every anime featured in this site! You'll find it at the top of this page.

As promised I came back to updating this site in (almost) a year. And I came back with a bang! This is a HUGE update. Once again I re-ripped all the anime in this site from my DVDs. This time I’m not holding back on quality - I am giving you full DVD quality movies! I’m talking, 2 MB/s bit rate and 1-2 GB file sizes.

I decided to do this because some time ago I started using Crunchyroll and I’m finding that higher quality video makes a big difference. To have the space for bigger movies I decided to get rid of my fallbacks with ogg and webm video. You see, to have fully compatible web video that works on old browsers I had to convert every anime to mp4, ogg, and webm video. Doing that quickly consumed a lot of space on my server. I think it’s safe to assume that mp4 is a strong standard now for web video. Plus mp4 works natively on all mobile devices. So all my videos are strictly in mp4 and nothing else.

Anime communities have been adding a lot of blu-ray rips as of late. I keep track of them. For the following anime I’ve replaced my DVD rips with high quality conversions from blu-ray rips: Cyber City Oedo and Venus Wars.

As fabulous as this site update sounds, there's a drawback. Now that my movies are in 1-2 GB file sizes they don't stream well (when you view the movies in this site). High speed Internet is required now to view the high quality versions via streaming. The best option is to directly download my movies so that you don't need to fuss with streaming.

Lastly, I need to point out that the exclusive anime in this site is still as is in its average or low quality. That can’t be helped due to the nature of their origin. Hopefully one of these days someone will find a way to obtain higher quality versions of them.

It looks like my episode 2 of Cyber City Oedo 808 had director's commentry subtitles. I've corrected it.

Another big update! I've added Project A-ko 2, Project A-ko 3, and Project A-ko 4 - which completes my collection of all 5 Project A-ko movies!! I've completed the initial trilogy of Gall Force movies by adding Gall Force 2: Destruction and Gall Force 3: Stardust War. Included with each Gall Force movie is a full download of every Gall Force soundtrack. I've also added 2 anime series: Cyber City Oedo 808 (with its soundtrack) and the Fire Emblem OVA This is the last update for the Anime Video Archive for a long while. It'll probably be another year until I add new anime. How come? Well, I've uploaded nearly 200 GB worth of anime for this site! And there's a total of 636 movie clips here! There's so many because for every movie & episode on this site I had to convert it to 3 different formats for fully compatible HTML5 video.

Jul 8, 2013

Another big update! To begin with, I've been exploring anime communities and I found that several of the anime movies in this site are less quality than what anime communities offer. I wish I knew how that's possible because I'm ripping my anime directly from the DVDs! Anyway, so the following anime has been re-converted using the better quality versions: Demon City Shinjuku, Legend of Crystania, Project A-Ko, and Wicked City. Besides those movies, you should know that the rest of my movies are better quality than what anime communities currently distribute :) Especially my rips of the Sailor Moon movies. Also, I noticed that anime communities like to rip fullscreen anime in 704x480 instead of 640x480. That's a fantastic idea! In 704x480 it stretches the screen wide enough so that it doesn't look awkward on wide screens and anime characters don't look like squished midgets. With this idea in mind, I took the time (and this took me forever) to re-rip ALL my other movies in 704x480. As for my anime series, I only re-ripped Casshan. I'll try to do the rest later.

May 30, 2013

Big fantasy series update!! I've added Tales of Phantasia (4 episodes), RG Veda (2 long episodes), Ys Book & Ys II (11 episodes), Dragon Half (2 episodes), and Miyuki-chan in wonderland (2 episodes). As a site called 'FantasyAnime', I sure as heck now have a lot of fantasy anime!

Mar 27, 2013

I tried different DVD ripping software and I was able to grab the subtitles from Tank Police! So the Tank Police section is updated with high quality & low quality subtitle vids. I added to the homepage this Updates feed and lists of the top anime! Interesting stuff, huh? Also, I found a big mistake. Ever since the launch of this site all the Legend of Crystania download links were linking to Gall Force. It's fixed now.

Mar 23, 2013

Venus Wars (Subtitled) had incomplete subtitles. Sorry about that! I've corrected it and uploaded a fresh new version with correct subtitles.

Feb 4, 2013

I've added the following anime: Project A-ko: Uncivil Wars, Sailor Moon R: Promise of the Rose, Sailor Moon S: Hearts in Ice, Sailor Moon Super S: Black Dream Hole, Shamanic Princess (all 6 episodes) +soundtrack, Tank Police (all 4 episodes), Venus Wars +soundtrack, and Wrath of the Ninja. All this new anime includes both the dubbed and subtitled versions. All except for Tank Police; for some reason my DVD ripping software wasn't grabbing the English subtitles, so this update only includes the dubbed version of the series. As a new little feature, for each and every anime I have typed up a personal review to give my refreshing perspective.

Oct 20, 2012

The Anime Video Archive is live!! At launch it has 14 movies (and no series yet).
